    Okay.

So, what's on the agenda today, Marta?

Well, we can't actually... We can't see the agenda on the couch here.

    I just realized now.

We can still kind of fit in this screen, can't we?

    Yeah, kind of.

    Cozy up.

    Cozy up.

State of dev, first and foremost.

And we are going to be talking about the...

You could call it a minor train wreck.

    Quite literally.

    That is EXP right now.

Because... We've done a lot of good chat.

But we also done fucked up.

    And... Oh, yeah, indeed.

    Nice Mona Lisa pose.

    Is that what this is?

    Isn't it?

Or is that also before your time?

    Oh,

  2. Jason

    I mean... Kinda.

I think most people's time, right?

  3. Mikael

I mean, I suppose it's also before my time.

    Yeah, yeah,

  4. Jason

    yeah.

  5. Mikael

See, I think of the Mr. Bean movie when I think of Mona Lisa, so... You're getting

  6. Jason

    distracted.

    Stay on track.

  7. Mikael

    Get it?

  8. Jason

    Oh!

  9. Mikael

    That was unscripted.

    Holy shit.

    Nice.

EXP crashes when dismantling Trains

  1. Mikael

    Nice.

To get to the point, on the XP right now, if you are playing the experimental branch, if you dismantle a train, you may realize that 10 out of 10 times you will crash.

    Like, the game will crash.

    Which is...

Certainly not going to be there for live, I can tell you that much.

  2. Jason

    That's pretty bad,

  3. Mikael

    actually.

Lots of fixes on EXP

  1. Jason

    That's pretty bad,

  2. Mikael

    actually.

And there is a story behind why something so significant

could make it onto a patch, because this patch otherwise did fix a hell of a lot of stuff.

And the notes have been out for almost a week, because the patch has been out for almost a week.

So I'm not going to go through it super, super in depth, but we have fixed audio stuff, we have fixed crashes related to online and multiplayer and clients joining late game multiplayer sessions.

We have fixed custom map marker issues, we have fixed crashes due to path nodes, we have fixed performance overall, we have fixed...

    Literally, the nodes are...

I'm gonna put them on the retweets, the restream, sorry.

    Chat right there.

They are there, they are very chunky, not gonna read through all that, but there is a lot of stuff in here about performance, about game mechanics, fixes, bug fixes.

    Um...

1.2.2.0 was delayed, which led to scope creep

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjR80_h10jM&t=140

Suggested Wiki Reference Code
Topics
  1. Mikael

But we've talked about, so patch two was delayed.

It was supposed to be released, I believe, late or even like mid to late April, which is now two or three weeks ago.

    Three weeks ago, yeah.

And when it wasn't released, because some key people got sick and a couple of other hiccups, people started scope creeping into just pushing more stuff into the patch, which is, you know, fine, fair, this stuff was going to make it into 1.2 live anyway.

So may as well push that in there too, with good intention.

This patch was being scope crept.

But that also meant that when QA was back on their feet, there would be even more stuff for them to bug test.

And I'm sure you've seen this.

If you play something like an MMO or even any huge game that gets regular updates, you're pretty aware of the weirdest interactions where

    Just take MMOs for example.

You buff a random mob, an enemy, in some dungeon somewhere and all of a sudden a player's bags can break for no reason.

There are some strange interactions and intertwined messes of code, more, I guess, dependencies in the code, going on behind the scenes, and Satisfactory is no exception to that.

So, as a lot got shoved in in the scope creep in patch 2, that meant that some other things that you would suspect were completely unrelated

to say these fixes they started breaking and so qa has quite literally been playing whack-a-mole with this for a while

  2. Jason

    yeah

  3. Mikael

and we have a detailed or as detailed as we could go without boring you to death detailed summary from andrea our newest qa tester here at coffee stain for satisfactory

Where he's saying, so we had an issue, I'm gonna read this flat out because his words are the best words.

Basically, we had an issue for which you could fall out of the map inside a vehicle and fall indefinitely without dying.

    That has now been fixed.

When that got fixed, the whack-a-mole started happening with where a bug came up that would cause players to be soft-locked and unable to move after respawning under certain conditions.

Not always, but under certain conditions, always.

    Sometimes, yes.

so they fixed this bug where you could get stuck indefinitely and then the third bug finally reared its ugly head which was you crash whenever you dismantle any locomotive oh well and this was not realized internally until we were actually back on our feet and almost ready to send the patch 2 out

So the debate happened the delay has been three plus weeks now.

Do we delay even further or do we send this and Fix it as soon as possible Which felt like the better idea because one holding the patch

could mean that it was gonna be even more significantly delayed.

And two, because of this whack-a-mole timeline, you don't really know what would break if we did fix this train bug before we sent it out live.

    If we did send it,

something even bigger or something even more annoying could happen and kind of in a fun twist of fate exp is actually a very good spot for this if we send this out live right now and uh just track the train crash bugs as they happen as you all crash as you dismantle trains

    We have this out now.

Experimental is Experimental

  1. Mikael

If we hotfix this while the game is live on eXp, then whatever issue might crop up from that will be found much faster because we have a lot of players playing the game.

Not only our internal QA, but all of you.

If this had been the live version of the game, you could, one, definitely expect this to not go live until everything was fixed on our end, even if it would take some more time.

That is the one thing, yeah.

    But because it is eXp,

Which, again, the point of eXp is not to just give you a fully functional game early for no reason.

It is for us to openly test everything going on with the upcoming content for a next major update in some cases.

Or it could also just be performance or back-end tests as well.

In this case it is tests for a major update.

We felt that, yeah, fuck it, it's EXP, so let's actually use it for what it's meant for, testing, large scale.

  2. Jason

Do you think we're not clear enough about that?

    Maybe.

Because, you know, I mean, I don't know if we've ever asked you guys to, like, back up your saves or anything like that.

But, yeah, EXP is certainly experimental.

    Things are gonna break.

I think the team's usually pretty good about keeping even the experimental builds stable, but sometimes you just gotta send it.

    I

  3. Mikael

just realized there's only one name tag.

    It's pretty

  4. Jason

    implicit.

  5. Mikael

    There we go.

There's only one name tag on that screen, I just realized.

Hypothesis and Hypertubes

  1. Mikael

We have identified it, so funnily enough,

All of what I just said about something might break was a hypothesis.

Until it just got fixed internally this week, the train bug.

And funnily enough, yes, this hypothesis turned into concrete facts.

    Something else did break.

Something else that in fact would actually maybe be even more annoying.

and that is that the bug is fixed right now and as far as i know we're gonna push a hot fix soon but only if we then squash the next bug in the whack-a-mole chain which is making it impossible for the players to cycle at hyper tube junctions and if you somehow would brute force that or try to the game might also the bed so i'm not sure if more people use hyper tubes than use trains but

At some point, we just gotta...

  2. Jason

There's probably quite a bit of overlap there.

  3. Mikael

    Yeah.

    Maybe.

    Because I'm definitely...

    I've used hyper...

I use hyper tubes, but I've never touched a train.

  4. Jason

Trains scare me a little bit.

I just don't know how the signals work.

That's really just the one thing.

One more thing - weather-related crash

  1. Mikael

One more, or train bug, sorry.

One more thing I was gonna bring from Andrea's table, hot to you all, is that we are aware of a second bug,

that was introduced with patch 2 since last week, which is that the game can also crash if you play on a low to mid-end PC.

It can happen if you play on a high-end PC, or at least if you play with high graphics, with high settings.

but it's very rare and it's much more common on mid to low-end PCs and that is that rain can bug in a way that if you change biomes or if you walk into an area where the game has to load in new buildables

And the system then checks for one, is it raining in this biome?

And two, if it is raining, then some of these buildables that have now been spawned in because you are close enough in proximity to them, so they are being popped into the map, do they sound-wise occlude rain or not?

And sometimes that spawning in and out of the occlusion function is what can cause a rain, rain, crash on the EXP right now.

    Something along those lines.

Which again is only happening because I think there is a time this is like concerning low to mid and PCs because there is some sort of timeout for Something some maybe something I'm just kind of speculating here at this point, but like maybe the occlusion system is Faster than the object spawning in so it's trying to find objects not actually on the map yet or something about I don't know But it's very fine on high-end PCs, but that together with the train I mean the train bug is by far and away the

most like the thing causing the most crashes per minute or per hour whatever and then it's um seconded by the rain crash and those two are like decently far ahead of everything else which is just your usual random ass technical bugs so yeah

  2. Jason

so to our to our friend with the the 1070 in their bill sorry

  3. Mikael

    Godspeed.

If you're a 1070 train-loving, satisfactory player, then EXP is not the place for you right now.

    So yeah.

Very fun to see how people are working around the train bug.

Just making small little deviations in the track to park them permanently.

    I saw

  2. Jason

someone, they built a glass case around the train and their server with a sign that says, like, do not delete this.

It will break the entire world.

    Yep.

It's like that Smiling Friends bit where there's a single screw at the bottom or a single nail in the basement that is holding the whole house up.

  3. Mikael

    Macallion sitting on a 1060.

Does the game even play on a 1060?

Wait, that might be our minimum requirement, actually.

    I couldn't tell you.

    Holy shit.

    That is ancient.

    So, yeah.

    So, yeah.

Otherwise, the patch is confirmed to be the final patch, like the final proper patch for EXP before the game goes live.

which should be even sooner now, TM, than it was last week, or the week before.

And we are sending a hotfix for the train tracks as soon as possible, as well as the HyperTube thing that is internal right now.

And then I think it's just a one-way track to

uh james i'm currently using a steam deck to play 1.1 will the 1.2 update be too much for the hardware in the deck uh no no it will not you'll you'll you'll be fine once it officially releases i can't speak for the performance of it right now and experimental but no it'll absolutely be and that goes for consoles as well like 1.2 will

It's why the development windows are a little longer than what you might want, so we can make sure everything works properly before actually officially releasing.

  2. Mikael

We might want to look into the minimal specs when we release 2.0 and the terraforming function.

    That's gonna be...

That's gonna be a game changer for how much processing power you will need and you can

  3. Jason

I'm still I'm holding out for the GameCube port

  4. Mikael

    I saw something.

Someone posted a comment on the YouTube video, the check-in, about...

One of the I think the metallic walls or the steel walls the pattern is different than another one like the texture so I've been meaning to To to talk with the team about that shit because that seems like a nice like if down the line we ever updated the the walls That would

  2. Mikael

be good to keep in mind join me on the escalation front

    because it's a hard-won battle.

But I am still speaking for you people, for architecture with walls is probably at the very, very top of that list.

    Probably.

We lost the... not the power pole, the daisy-chaining battle, for now.

    1.3, I believe.

    Daisy chaining?

    Daisy chaining.

Moving it up from where it is on the tree to slightly higher.

    Because it's...

    I mean, it's...

I still think it's too far down.

It's also, yes, Catherium is not the worst tree to navigate through.

    It's pretty easy to reach.

    It is.

It's meant to be a later game feature.

    You guys are spoiled.

    For what reason?

    You guys are so spoiled.

What's the reason for that, Jason?

  3. Jason

    I don't...

I mean... Yeah, there you go.

    I don't know.

    There

  4. Mikael

    you go.

It's just so nice to play with.

Yeah, power... And power poles still have niche uses.

Or, like, even just use uses with switches.

    So, you know.
