Yeah, the remake

was...

Well, yeah, I liked the remake.

I just, I wasn't a huge fan of what they did with the story.

I mean, sorry, spoilers, if anyone haven't played.

You didn't like it?

Oh.

Well, I thought it was a really good game.

I just like, you know, the original Final Fantasy is like the better Final Fantasy story.

Does that make sense?

Yeah, I mean, I guess I can see that.

Like, I feel like there's maybe like a...

I want to say an element of elegance to the original story a little bit more.

But I also wonder if the fact that we have like played through the whole game and finished the story.

I wonder if that sort of helps...

helps give us the whole picture of what happened.

And in this case, we've got a glimpse of what they intend to do.

So I don't want to jump on the story too much because maybe this actually sets up for a really good wrap-up later down the line.

Maybe.

And we don't really know that yet because we haven't got there yet.

Yeah, because I'm kind of curious what it would be like to play that game when you haven't played the original game at all.

Because there's so many like elements that, you know, because the thing that I really like about the first Final Fantasy, or the original Final Fantasy VII is like the whole setup with Midgar and like they don't really set, like it's all a setup for like the actual story with Sephiroth and all that stuff.

And that whole like, it's just a big prelude.

And it's like my favorite part of Final Fantasy VII is the whole start in Midgar.

And it felt like in the remake, they wanted to give you the end sort of, you know, several shows up and all that stuff.

They were force feeding the rest of the story to us early.

Kinda.

I guess to keep us interested.

And I

guess the reunion part too, they kind of spoiled the reunion thing too.

And, like, the fact that they don't kill off any characters, like, the whole district going down and, like, it was such a... Like, in the original, it was such a big deal.

And the weird ghosts and all that stuff, like, I don't know.

Right, right.

But I don't know.

I mean, I thought it was a really fun game overall.

Like, the combat mechanics or whatever, the rehash of it.

Yep.

I thought it was a lot of fun.

It looked really nice.

It was nice to see a really modern version of Midgar and stuff like that as well.

Oh,

my God, the music.

Yeah.

jeez music was like actually one of the things that was very clearly leveled up yeah oh my god

yeah it was like there's been so many like covers of fun fancy seven songs and they just feel like they totally level up like the the the boss fight music um when you fight the the robot in like the the second reactor like that song is 20 minutes long

the one that they have in the remake.

And it's just like over the top with everything.

And it's just, oh, it's so well made.

Yeah, because I was playing Final Fantasy VII with a friend of mine who is also a musician.

And like the one thing, like every time we'd get to a new area...

we'd always have to comment on the music because it was just like it's it sounds so familiar it gives you yeah it invokes all of those feelings that you had when you played the original like it's nostalgic but it's super modern and super good

one thing that like really kind of like why i'm so kind of mixed about it is because all that nostalgia is super strong because like seeing all these characters in like full res and like being voice acted

um and the amount of detail they put into like all the areas and stuff you know it's like it's like everything i wanted from a remake but then at the same time it's like it's a bit different and it feels a bit jarring because it's kind of like you know when you're a kid and like your cool uncle or whatever is telling you a story that you've heard like a million times and then they change it up because they don't want to tell the same story yeah that's kind of how it feels playing the

remake actually true like that was the only point i had left to say and was that like i think

if they tried to tell the exact same story, it might have been a little stale for us who have played it already.

And so like, I kind of feel like this story was something that like it was clear that things are going to be a little bit different.

And so when I played the game,

I was aware that there might be differences coming up and I don't really know what's happening, even though I think I know what's happening because I've played the original a bajillion times.

And so that was pretty nice for me, I think.

I think another reason why they had to shoehorn a lot of later stuff to try and paint a bigger picture than what was painted in the Midgar section of the first game, the original game,

Was also because if they're selling like a full-price game that quote-unquote begins and ends, I feel like it would be a bit of a lackluster ending if as a player you felt there wasn't more to come.

But then when I think about it, the end of Midgar suggests there's more to come.

So... Yeah.

In the original game, anyway.

So like, I'm not sure about that point anymore.

Yeah.

Because it is such a strong moment in the original game, also, when, like, they leave Midgar and then they go to... What's the name of that town?

Is it Calm?

Is it Calm?

Yeah, it's Calm, right?

With a K, right?

With a K, yeah.

Yeah.

Where, like, they tell the story of Sephiroth.

Where, like, they run into the sword that is plunged into...

To Shinra.

And then they're like,

hold up, hold up.

Spoilers, hold up.

Spoilers of a game that came out in 97 or whatever.

Yeah, look, there's a lot of games out there.

People still try to get around to it all, right?

Yeah, sure.

But that's, like, my favorite part is leading into that, where, like, they tell the story as well about, like, the main villain, whereas in the remake, it's just like,

I'm here, and I'm gonna do-ba-doo.

Yeah, yeah.

But

also, I'm not sure what they're gonna do with, like, the...

Is the character going to carry over?

Because it feels weird that you unlock all the materia, essentially.

But this is part one.

But I have the highest level of most of the materia I

have

in

the beginning.

This was my first concern when I finished the game.

I'm a bit of a completionist.

I got the platinum trophy and stuff for it.

I maxed out all the materia.

I'm like, what's going to happen now?

Do I stay strong?

How do they balance that?

Do I lose my progress effectively when the next game comes out?

I'm not really sure.

Is it going to be like a

Metroid thing where like at the beginning of the next game they're like, oh no, I lost all the materia.

Oh no.

Maybe

Yuffie shows up and just takes it all and you're like, oh gosh, darn it.

We have to start again.

Gosh darn.

Hot dog.

Yeah.

Yeah, I really don't know.

So I guess we'll see.

I'm curious.

I feel a bit skeptical, but I'm also curious.

We'll see what happens, I guess.

I'm wary because I think...

Final Fantasy has made me wary over the years with certain releases and not really executing things like super great, kind of dropping the ball in some cases.

So I'm not sure.

However, I do think that Final Fantasy VII, I think it lived up to my expectations.

I think the remake, I think it lived up to it.

I think it was a great entry.

There are some things that I wish were different, but overall, I'm really, really pleased with what we got.

And so I'm hoping that they'll do that again next time.

But I'm kind of cautious because I know they could drop the ball.

I know they can.

I don't want them to, but we'll see what happens.

I'm very, very curious.

I'm glad it's happening though.

Like I'm glad even if it comes out and it's kind of shitty, I'm just glad this whole thing is happening because it's just interesting one way or the other.

It's also like one of the most requested like games to remake since like they did that PlayStation 3 demo.

i'm also i'm also quite positive like the fact that they did it i'm also the thing that i've also thought about a lot is that i feel like they will make a fine fancy remake when like square enix are need the money you know what i mean like they need to pump out a good like a game that they know will sell so that that that was my main concern when i saw that they actually were making a remake is like oh is it

And I got, uh, you know, I maxed that as well.

I got, I got every achievement.

And then I think there was like a new boss introduced into the main game.

If you get that as well, uh, in the, uh, battle simulator thingy and, uh, yeah, beat that, beat that as well.

That was rough, but I got there in the end.

But that tells like a, also like a made up or, uh, it's not, it's, it's an original storyline, right?
