comments up for the video want to go look for it so so yeah we worked hard on that trailer the

    Well, both trailers actually.

So Tim gave me like a bit of a story around that trailer also.

He said that, so before we released our trailer, we apparently made three other trailers with like,

set to three different like songs and we've been doing that pretty much ever since like that we always made like a ton of trailers um so i've got a bit of like a behind the scene thing here um where this is this is one like this is not a done trailer per se this is like kind of a placeholder uh vibe thing there's also no audio so i'm not really missing much but like

This is essentially the E3 trailer that was announced last year.

And this video has a bunch of shots from our pre-alpha footage.

I think we released that on YouTube, where you talk over pre-alpha footage.

Yeah, I saw that there was some.

    That was old, 2017 footage.

So it's got parts of that, it's got parts of some stuff that they shot.

For the E3 stuff, like here's old stuff.

  7. Jace

They've been in there that long.

  8. Snutt

    Yeah.

    And yeah, this thing.

I don't think we've ever shown that before.

    No.

    No.

So in the beginning, the Portal of Minor also was very portable.

    Yeah, very portable.

    Yeah.

This shot is in the E3 trailer, but it was very different because it's four characters instead of one.

This is essentially how we make trailers.

It's like we start making rough cuts and putting stuff in and like, what if, can we have this in here and can we showcase this?

    Here's our old stuff.

    The old UI.

But they're all there because this is what they're supposed to show in the trailer.

Does it make sense to show this in this part of the trailer and stuff like that?

It's really hard to make specifically trailers because they're viewed very differently compared to regular videos.

It's kind of like a one-shot mom spaghetti thing.

You put it out at its best or you mess up no matter what, you can't go back, so it's very scary.

And there's a lot of rules or things that you want to look out for.

There's a lot of things that when you release games on PlayStation or stuff like that, they could really care about like, okay, but you can't have a black screen in the beginning of the trailer and stuff like that.

Or you have to like, the very first shot has to be very like, there's a lot of work to get into essentially.

  9. Jace

    Yeah.

  10. Snutt

    And here's another cute thing.

So in the E3 trailer, we had a big ass factory.

but at the time when we shot that video our game could not run that factory like the game ran at like 15 FPS or something when when we had that huge factory pretty good and that factory was built in game as far as I know someone might correct me on this here but I think that was yeah I think that was built in game and like at the end when like shit was lagging like crazy

It was a pain in the ass to add more and more stuff.

And that was before our very first optimization pass, because there's a ton of stuff in now that just fixes a lot of issues.

It's come such a long way.

    Yeah.

    Because we didn't have...

There's something called the significance manager in the game that's based on distance.

It optimizes away a bunch of stuff.

    We didn't have that.

We didn't have proper network relevancy.

    We didn't have...

There's a lot of stuff that just wasn't in there when we made the E3 trailer.

So we had to shoot that video step by step, and then we could speed it up.

    It's a pretty common thing.

A lot of devs do that.

    A lot of devs cheat.

    Yeah, exactly.

    A lot of devs cheat.

But now we can actually run that factory.
