  1. Jace

All right, so let's take a look, huh?

    Yeah.

What are you showing us first?

    I've

  2. Simon

    prepared some things, okay?

I'm going to show you an explosion from the Noblisk detonator.

  3. Jace

    Everyone loves

  4. Simon

    them.

    Yes, everybody loves them.

    Me too.

So this is how it looks like this if I play it.

    That's cool.

Yeah, so this is how it looks for me like when I'm working with it.

So I have all these things here is different emitters that spawn sprites, particle sprites, and you can like add textures to them or color

  5. Jace

    and

  6. Simon

    change all these parameters.

But we can break it down or something.

    Yeah,

  7. Jace

    sure, sure, sure.

    If you can

  8. Simon

see this, this is like if you can see the debris flying around.

And then to this, I add sparks.

You add it in steps, right?

    So I have sparks.

  9. Jace

    Sparks and debris.

  10. Simon

    Sparks and debris so far.

And you can't really see this, but this is a light, so if it were closer to the ground, it would lit up the ground as well.

  11. Jace

    Okay.

  12. Simon

And then we have a dome, so it gives this thing around there.

You can't really see it if you look at the effects all together, but it's there, and it

  13. Jace

    makes...

It helps just make the whole thing come together, I

  14. Simon

    guess.

And then I'm adding some fire.

This is some fire to it.

And this is like a fire.

Let's see if I can show you this as well.

    It could be fun.

    It looks like this.

    It's a sprite sheet, right?

    Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

And these sprite sheets I make in another software called Houdini.

So I just make a simulation of it and then make a texture of it.

  15. Jace

And what is a sprite sheet?

  16. Simon

    I can show you again.

    I can do this.

  17. Jace

    Boom, this.

    OK.

So what is the purpose of it?

  18. Simon

    So this is animation.

    So it's like rendered animation.

So the sprite on the particle system, it will play through this animation from this part.

So we just go like this

  19. Jace

    over this lifetime.

Right, so that's every frame of the animation.

    Yeah, exactly.

  20. Cool.

  21. Simon

So I had that, but I just bumped up the color so you can't see the smoke in it.

    And it does this thing.

    And then I added...

So the fire spawns another fire.

    So it has even more.

    Like that.

And then you just add some smoke to it.

    So it's like this.

And together with sound and the camera shake, it's really cool.

It helps sell the effect even more.

  22. Jace

    Right.

    That's dope.

    It's dynamic.

It's not the same every time.

  23. Simon

    No, exactly.

    It has different velocity.

It has a chance to spawn in a different area within a sphere or something like that.

    It's different every time.

You can see if I just click it.

yeah cool yeah so that's that's one effect i guess that this is what i think most people think of when they think about vfx like explosions and stuff like that

  24. Jace

    yeah

  25. Simon

yeah but there's there's one thing that i want to show you that many people don't think about maybe so that's like ambient effects so in in dune desert for example
